Breaking News. Constellation North America CEO dies

JoseFernandez.jpgParent company Constellation Brands Inc. reported Monday, January 4, the passing away of Jose Fernandez, CEO of Constellation Wines North America. Fernandez was 54 years old and suffering from brain cancer. He died on New Year’s Day.

Fernandez, who trained as a conductor at the Julliard School in New York, joined the company in New York in 2001 and became CEO of Constellation’s North American wine unit in 2007. During his tenure, the company’s North American wine business grew substantially and included major acquisitions such as Robert Mondavi Corp., Vincor USA and Beam Wine Estates.
He is succeeded by Jay Wright, who became president of the unit at the beginning of December. Wright will now report directly to Constellation Brands President and CEO Rob Sands.
Major Constellation wine brands include Robert Mondavi, Clos du Bois, Blackstone, Ravenswood and Estancia.
