Wine Tourism – At home with the locals

Serge.jpg“It was a real great pleasure to meet you in Vinexpo and to welcome you ‘at home’ in the same way that we shall welcome all guests coming on your recommendation,” said Serge Tchekhov in his email to me, writes Reva K Singh. With such an assurance, consider staying at Serge’s place the next time you are in Bordeaux.

Serge and Stéphanie’s estate and guesthouse at 123 Chemin du Bord de L’Eau is located in a charming village facing the river, just 15 minutes away from the town of Bordeaux.
The guesthouse has four rooms and a suite, each one individually decorated but all equally comfortable for a stay that can only be described as “a home away from home”.
Explore the village on a bike and make the most of the simple pleasures of the countryside. Or go further afield in a chauffeur driven Classic or Vintage car arranged by Serge. The cars are also available to rent if you want to drive yourself. For a change from the bucolic life, you can rent a boat to take you to downtown Bordeaux for a spot of site-seeing or a few hours of shopping.
My husband and I were collected in a 1930s Mercedes and dropped back after a sumptuous buffet lunch with fine wine in a vintage Rolls! Stéphanie who used to own a restaurant, cooked the entire meal herself, which consisted of at least a dozen dishes!
Given his connections and familiarity with the wine estates of the region and their owners, Serge makes an ideal host and will answer all your vinous questions and regale you with stories about his time in Bordeaux. What’s more, he can also arrange a personalized visit to a local châteaux if you are interested.
